Paperwork Party!

I feel like I'm back in college with the ultimate final project hanging over my head. The good news is that instead of getting a grade for this one, we are getting a sweet baby! Our Memorial Day was spent doing paperwork ALL DAY. Mark was so sweet. He took one look at my handwriting on the rough draft and offered to write the whole thing! :) Last night we were prepping to get started again, and we turned it into a Paperwork Party, complete with Mark's fave- 7 Layer Dip. It made an intimidating task a little more fun!

We've answered hard questions like...
"What does being a Christian spouse and parent mean to you?"
"Why do you wish to adopt?"
"What background do you have that will benefit you in parenting?"
and easier ones like...
"List the names and addresses of your parents and siblings."
"Do you have any pets?"
"Have you made a commitment to yourself and your spouse to raise this child in a loving Christian home?" (Would anyone really put no???)
...and many, many more!
We have a few final touches to put on the paperwork, then we have to start collect lots of documentation for our home study. We've gotten both of our credit reports, our past tax reutrns, our last 4 paychecks, a list of our last 10 years' addresses, and a copy of our marriage license. We still need to get physicals, take Max to the vet, draw the floorplan of our house, and make copies of many more items!
It has been so fun to finally tell everyone our BIG NEWS! Thank you so much for being so excited for us and for praying for us. It makes this time even more special. We can't wait to introduce you all you our little one sometime soon!

Thanks, God!

We decided to adopt a baby back in January. I thought that was the easy part! It sure wasn't! Then we had to choose international or domestic, agency or private adoption, baby or toddler, and the list goes on and on! After a lot of prayer and research, we've chosen to adopt a newborn infant from right here in Texas. Hopefully, we'll be able to take the baby home from the hospital with us!

Next, we had to decide on an agency. We found a great agency here in Texas that we loved, but it was going to be a wait of over a year before we could even start the process because they had so many interested adoptive parents. So, we looked into an a law firm in California that some of our friends have used. I printed out the paperwork and was ready to start the application for the California place. I prayed one last prayer for peace and wisdom throught this whole process. It's nerve wracking to decide where to get your baby! It's one of those decisions you don't want to mess up. Mark got home from worked and noticed that we had a message. It was the lady from the Texas agency! She told us that we were next on the waiting list to start the process! The wait that should have been 12-14 months was only 2 months, and just happened to end on the same night that we were about to apply for another agency. We are so thankful that God so vividly showed us the choice we needed to make. We've got a Memorial Day full of paperwork ahead of us!
