Yup, as unbelievable as it sounds, our sweet 6 month old is about to be the proud owner of a full body cast, right down to her tiny ankles!
She will go to the hospital, be put under anesthesia and get injected with dye so the doctor can better see her bones (a big portion of a 6 month-old's hip joint is still cartilage and it doesn't show up on x-ray). Then he will carefully line up her bones correctly and cast them.
3 months later we will get the cast off.
What?! Yes, 3 months of being in a Spica cast!
We are so thankful that this problem is 100% fixable, and that it is not causing Tatem any pain. BUT, this is a lot to digest and will change our day to day living quite a bit. Her legs are spread apart too wide to fit in a regular car seat or high chair. She's going to be even harder to snuggle! I'll just snuggle her cheeks and arms! Mark said one good thing is that since nearly every inch of her will be covered, it will be next to impossible for Landrie to hurt her! haha!
Oh, sweet baby girl, we love you so much and wish that you didn't have to go through any of this!
Did I mention we can't bathe her for 3 months?? Will y'all still hang out with me even if my baby is a bit stinky? :)
We know that God has great plans for our precious daughter! We are trusting in Him through all of this and know that he can use this for His good!
"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God"

I have never heard of such a thing! Praying for Tatem as she has to endure a full body cast! I am sure she is going to be quite inventive on how to get around, and she'll have some awesome upper body strength. Praying for YOU and your sweet family as you adjust.
I had never heard of a baby being in a full body cast until today...and now I have heard it twice in one day. Weird. I am sorry your sweet girl has to go through this, but I am glad it will solve the problem!
I have no clue how I found your blog (I believe a friend has your blog link on her blog), but I have been following for a while. I never comment on others blogs, but my little Caroline had a Spica cast put on in September and she got it off in November. It was a long road for us because she was diagnosed at 4 months and didn't get the cast until 9 months. After the harness and the brace, I surprisingly liked the cast better because I knew there would be an end to all the treatments. We are still not out of the woods and have our second post spica follow-up appointment next week at Scottish Rite.
Are you in the DFW area? I'm in Keller. I have a Ivy Rose Spica chair that I would love to donate to you (hopefully we don't need it anymore). If you are interested my email is

You can read about our spica season on my blog AubreyJane.com. I will keep you guys in my thoughts as your travel down this road.
I know that you will make it through this season Corrie!! Thankfully, it will be a past memory soon! I just think about how 3 months flies by when I have something that has an end to it. Hang in there!!
Oh thank you all for the sweet comments! We ready for this next chapter and really appreciate the support of all of you!!
Poor sweet baby! I just can't imagine being in that cast for 3 months! But it will prob bother you way more than it will her. She will be so used to it! Praying that this fixes the problem completely! Everything will be fine!
HI!
I heard about your blog through a friends and have been following for awhile! I have a baby girl a few weeks older than Tatem and think of all you are going through with her often. I think you are very brave and courageous! Your cheerful spirit always helps me! Keeping you in my prayers! ~Bethany
